More than 70 women developers from across Nairobi showed up for Hack4Freedom, a two-week hybrid programme of workshops, mentorship and hands-on building centred on Bitcoin and freedom technology. Running from September 21 to October 5, 2026, it ended in a hackathon where participants presented the ideas they had turned into working projects….
Five Dada Devs alumni based in Kenya contributing to open source, developing Bitcoin infrastructure, and shaping the next generation of builders. Bitcoin’s future depends on more than the technology itself. It depends on the people who maintain its code, improve its infrastructure, build applications, and make it possible for others to participate…
Installing Bitcoin Core for the first time isn’t as easy as one would expect. For developers following the Bitcoin development pathway, running a Bitcoin Core node is an important part of getting hands-on experience. It allows you to move beyond reading about Bitcoin and actually interact with the network, create wallets, generate transactions,…
There’s something quietly surreal about being recognized for contributing to open source on the same day you’re standing in front of a room teaching someone else how to write their first Rust program. When the winners were announced at BTC++ Nairobi, the applause celebrated more than individual projects. It marked a moment that had been years in the making. By the time I was ten years old, I was already questioning the story I had been handed: that my highest aspiration was marriage, that my role in the economy was peripheral,…
Key Facts: Bitcoin adoption in Africa has largely been driven by necessity: unstable currencies, surveillance, restricted access to global markets, and limited trust in legacy financial systems. Africa now has one of the fastest-growing Bitcoin user bases globally, yet suffers from a critical scarcity of Bitcoin products built locally. Developers, female and male alike, face…

They end quietly, usually in the middle of another build, another review, another session that runs longer than planned. That was 2025 for Dada Devs. Most of the year was spent doing the work. Running cohorts. Supporting builds. Working through unclear…
The need for more women in Bitcoin development extends far beyond achieving diversity in a male-dominated field; it’s about driving inclusive solutions and ensuring the future of finance reflects the world it serves. According to the World Bank, about 1.4 billion people globally do not have access to a bank account, and 350 million are…
